We test Eagle Eyes Ultralite Night sunglasses to see if their yellow lens technology actually reduces glare from modern headlights during night driving.
Quick answer
Yes, Ultralite Night sunglasses help reduce glare from bright headlights during night driving, thanks to their yellow-tinted Night-Lite lenses. They are not a cure-all, but they can improve visual comfort and contrast in low-light conditions.
Trade-off: Yellow tint vs. color perception
The yellow lens tint works by filtering blue light and enhancing contrast, which can make objects appear sharper. However, it slightly alters color perception—whites may look warm, and some drivers find this distracting. The effect is mild and usually fades after a few minutes of wear.
Exception: Not for fog or heavy rain
While yellow lenses help with glare, they do not improve visibility in fog, rain, or snow. In fact, they can make conditions worse by reducing contrast in those situations. For those conditions, look for lenses with anti-reflective coating or consider clear night driving glasses.
Diagnosis: Do Ultralite Night sunglasses work for you?
- Symptom: You find modern LED and xenon headlights painfully bright at night, causing eye strain or temporary blindness.
- Likely cause: High-intensity blue light from car headlights scatters more in your eyes, creating glare that standard lenses don't filter.
- Corrective action: Wear Ultralite Night sunglasses. Their yellow Night-Lite lenses selectively block blue light, reducing glare and improving contrast. If you still experience glare after trying them, your issue may be an underlying vision problem.
- Stop or choose another option: If you drive in fog, rain, or snow frequently, these are not the right choice. Look for clear anti-glare lenses instead. Also, if you need perfect color recognition (e.g., for work), test them first.
